Mommy Makeover in Morehead City, Jacksonville NC
A mommy makeover can describe a combination of a number of plastic surgery procedures. The term was coined because women wanted to have a single surgery to help regain their post-pregnancy appearance. Pregnancy can effect may different part of the body including the abdomen (stretching of the skin and/ muscles, stretch marks), the breasts (loss of volume, sagging or drooping), and many women find areas of unwanted fat that do not respond to their post-pregnancy diet or exercise routines. A mommy makeover may include a Tummy Tuck (to remove excess abdominal skin and tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall), Liposuction (to remove excess fat in areas that are not addressed by the tummy tuck), and Breast Surgery whether it be an augmentation, a lift, or some combination of both. (Please refer to the individual pages for a detailed description of a particular procedure) Dr. Klainer will discuss the pros and cons of each and all procedure combinations during initial consultation and then again at your pre-op visit if you are proceeding with surgery.
The advantages of doing multiple procedures at once are one surgery to correct a variety of concerns, one time for anesthesia, and only one recovery. In individuals who are healthy and motivated the combined procedures are very safe. The procedure is done in a hospital setting under general anesthesia.
Recovery and Downtime
Recovery and the amount of downtime are related to which procedures are undertaken. For any procedure with a tummy tuck the recovery time is the greatest. Most patients will take off 7-10 days from work and physical activity is restricted for the first 6 weeks (no lifting over 10 pounds, no exercise or activity which causes twisting or significant turning). After 6 weeks patients may return to their normal routine as tolerated.
If no tummy tuck is done and the mommy makeover consists solely of liposuction and breast surgery most patients can return to work within 5 to 7 days and return to full activity at 3 weeks.
